<title>Podcast: The Five Rules of Negotiation</title>
<link>http://view.vistage.com/media/podcasts/jack-kaine.mp3</link>
<description>

Negotiation is not bargaining. Bargaining is competitive. Negotiation is cooperative, with the goal of creating deals that work for both parties. Agreements that favor one party typically don’t last long and end up generating conflict and potential litigation. Ideally, negotiating should be a simple process, but more often than not it gets fouled up, usually through competition, misunderstanding and a lack of good negotiating skills. Listen now to "The Five Rules of Negotiation."

These habits are the polar opposites of the three characteristics of a "seagull manager": swooping, squawking, and dumping. Listen now as Travis Bradberry, author of "Squawk! How to Stop Making Noise and Start Getting Results" discusses how to avoid seagull management.

<title>Podcast: The Myth of Multitasking</title>
<link>http://view.vistage.com/media/podcasts/dave-crenshaw-multitasking.mp3</link>
<description>

Multitasking has become something of a heroic word in our vocabulary, but the concept simply doesn't exist. Many executives pride themselves on their ability to “multitask.” Recent job descriptions even ask that potential employees have the ability to multitask. However, multitasking, as most people understand it, is deceptively counter-productive and costly when we attempt to engage in it.

<title>Podcast: Bob Prosen -- Ten Tips For Recession Proofing Your Business</title>
<link>http://view.vistage.com/media/podcasts/making_key_indicators_work_kraig_kramers.mp3</link>
<description>
Bob Prosens’s presentation on recession proofing your business delivers tools and tactics to help business owners zero in on profits and deliver satisfaction to employees, customers and shareowners. Here’s a summary of his tips: #1) Always run leaner than the status quo would prefer, especially in good times. #2) Verify that at least 50 percent of customers are loyal. Meaning, they will continue to buy from the company and freely provide testimonials and referrals. #3) Identify the organization's top three most critical objectives and have measurement tools in place to ensure they are being met. #4) Take a critical look at the corporation's performance management system to make sure certain rewards are tied to results and not to how hard people work. #5) Weed out sales people who haven't been meeting their numbers. Ensure that your recognition systems reward margin, drive revenue and encourage accountability. #6) Evaluate the accuracy of every sales forecast and make the necessary adjustments to improve the reliability of winning future business. #7) Get receivables in order and ensure appropriate inventory levels. #8) Measure employee productivity and immediately stop working on non-essential initiatives. #9) Ensure that your company can operate with a 15% drop in sales, and put a plan in place just in case that should happen. #10) Discourage buying into the theory that recession means failure, rather plan ahead to increase efficiency and win a larger share of the available opportunities.
